 Ripple Effects from Iraq

Syria:   Tribal leaders in Aleppo said today that they would ally with ISIL and obey the group's orders, following a meeting with ISIL leaders. At the meeting, ISIL's spokesmen talked about their future plans, calling ISIL a global association. Other subjects included the increase in ISIL's support among Iraqis and providing aid to civilians. ISIL also called on the leaders of the Elbu Hamis, Beni Said, el-Avan and el-Ganim tribes to respect and apply Sharia law. In a joint statement after the meeting, tribal leaders said they would help ISIL fight to establish a new Islamic state across Iraq and Syria.
Comment: Since Syrian government forces and Hizballah militiamen control much of Aleppo, this statement looks mostly like a propaganda ploy. Two points, however, are worth noting. First is ISIL's claim that it now is a global association. That calls to mind al Qaida, as an association or company. The second point is that pro-militant propaganda increasingly focuses on erasing the national boundaries set by the colonial powers in 1916. That idea is becoming popular among Arabs.
Lebanon: Hizballah will fight in Iraq. Hasan Nasrallah, the secretary general of the Lebanese Hizballah, threatened that his party would not hesitate to take part in the ongoing fighting in Iraq if a need arises there. Hasan Nasrallah told the press that Hizballah is willing to sacrifice five times as much as it sacrificed in Syria in order to protect the holy shrines in Iraq.
Comment: Lebanese Hizballah sent fighters to Iraq in the mid-2000's to support Shiites fighting against the Sunni rebels. Nasrallah's threats are not idle. ISIL shows no signs of moving against Baghdad, much less the Karbala and Najaf south of Baghdad. An ISIL attack at Samarra, however, 78 miles north of Baghdad, might test Nasrallah's commitment again.  -NightWatch
 Contradictions on Iraq
"There's no military solution inside of Iraq, uh, certainly not one that is led by the United States," Barack nObama said as he announced sending "up to 300" U.S. military advisers to Iraq. In another contradiction, he boasted in 2011 of his pledge to "bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end" by withdrawing all U.S. forces (something he repeated ad naseum), but he said Thursday, "Keep in mind, that wasn't a decision made by me. That was a decision made by the Iraqi government." The buck stops over there. In other news, The Wall Street Journal reports, "Sunni extremists in Iraq have occupied what was once Saddam Hussein's premier chemical-weapons production facility, a complex that still contains a stockpile of old weapons, State Department and other U.S. government officials said." Wait -- Saddam Hussein had WMD? Who knew?

 New GOP Leadership
It was the natural order of things. Soon-to-be-former-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor stepped down, he picked Rep. Kevin McCarthy (CA) as his replacement, and the House voted another self-proclaimed "Young Gun Conservative" to replace Cantor. Rep. Steve Scalise (LA) filled McCarthy's old position as majority whip. National Review's Joel Gehrke reports the vote was taken in secret -- even GOP lawmakers were kept in the dark -- in an attempt to at least appear unified. McCarthy made one promise: "I will work every single day to make sure this conference has the courage to lead and the wisdom to listen. And we'll turn this country around." Republicans aren't shaking things up, which reveals again they expect to cruise to a big win in November on the basis of being Not Democrats. Maybe that will be enough for dissatisfied voters.  Frivolous Prosecution
Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker won his recall election in 2012 -- a historic feat -- after taking on his state's public unions. But Big Labor hasn't forgiven him. A judge unsealed prosecution documents accusing Walker of breaking the law because he coordinated fundraising during his campaign. The documents are a political attack that a judge has already thrown out. Heritage Foundation's Hans von Spakovsky writes, "What these unsealed documents provide is simply more evidence that local prosecutors were attempting to prosecute First Amendment-protected activity -- specifically political speech on issues -- by conservative organizations and to curtail the speech of someone they considered a political enemy. As Wisconsin Club for Growth's attorney, Andrew Grossman, said, what these documents actually show is how local prosecutors 'adopted a blatantly unconstitutional interpretation of Wisconsin law that they used to launch a secret criminal investigation targeting conservatives throughout Wisconsin.'"  dinky Reid, Kochs, Money -- Cue Tape
Senate Majority Leader dinky Harry Reid (D-NV) took to the Senate floor Thursday to once again rail against the Koch brothers. He can't help himself. "The decisions by the Supreme Court have left the American people with a status quo in which one side's billionaires are pitted against the other side's billionaires," he said. "Except one side doesn't have many billionaires," meaning his side. Except George Soros, Warren Buffett and Tom Steyer are three that quickly come to mind. But it's those darn Koch brothers dinky Reid can't stand. "It is not right that we have two of richest men in the world trying to buy America," he complained. "They have far more money than virtually every government." Well, they certainly have more money than the U.S. government, which is $17 trillion in the hole thanks to the likes of dinky Reid and Co.  -The Patriot Post
 Except for Its Poor Record...
"The [British National Health Service] NHS has been declared the world's best healthcare system by an international panel of experts who rated its care superior to countries which spend far more on health," crows the UK Guardian. We noted numerous problems with the study Wednesday. It seems even the Guardian is aware that all is not well in paradise, slipping in this doozy: "The only serious black mark against the NHS was its poor record on keeping people alive." As The Wall Street Journal's James Taranto quips, "So as long as you don't mind dying, the NHS is great." More...  -The Patriot Post
Mass Graves of Immigrant Bodies Found in US
Unidentified illegal immigrants who died on their journey to the United States were buried in a South Texas cemetery located more than 75 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border...The bodies were reportedly buried in mass graves--some were put underground in trash bags, others in no bag at all. Some graves contained bags with only skulls, other bones, or decomposed body parts in them, according to the Caller-Times. The burial site, located in Falfurrias, reportedly contained bodies that had been buried as early as 2005. A pair of anthropologists and volunteer students found the cemetery and unearthed remains of more than 100 people in 2013. The Caller-Times reported, "This summer they performed 52 exhumations, but more than 52 people were buried in those spaces. Because remains were commingled, and not all of the body bags were opened on-site, further study will be needed to determine the number of people recovered."
How Did Barack nObama Get Authority to Bomb Syria?
The ridiculous myth is that Barack nObama gained the authority to bomb or send ground troops to Iraq because of a vote in Congress back in 2001 or 2002...Nancy Pulosi insists this gave him forever power to attack any way he likes. Rand Paul is trying to get people to think about what they are saying. But that is the prevalent view. Imminent threat? Does anyone seriously think the United States is facing an imminent threat? Perhaps our embassy personnel are doing so, but the pressing need would be to get them out of Iraq, not bomb Syria. Of course, liberals wanted nObama to bomb Syria even when they admitted it would be an illegal attack. So now this could be their chance. For awhile it looked like nObama was ready to override Congress and bomb without authorization. Then he backed down. Does he regret that decision? Is he looking for a way to undo it?
Russia Secretly Sponsoring Anti-Fracking Campaigns?
I’m not too angry at the Russian government because 1) I already didn’t think too highly of the Russian government and 2) I know our government finances a lot of subversive activity over there. But it is important to know this when you hear confident claims against fracking—the new method of acquiring shale gas...According to the Telegraph, Greenpeace claimed that Rasmussen’s accusations were “preposterous.” But I don’t see why. Oil exportation is extremely important to Russia’s financial well-being. Fracking is a game changer. They would have every incentive to support anti-fracking movements. To make their case against Rasmussen, Greenpeace pointed out Russia’s hostility to the organization. But just because the Russian government is hostile to Greenpeace doesn’t mean they are not useful to Russia in some areas. If Russia punishes Greenpeace for the policies they don’t like, and secretly funds (without Greenpeace’s knowledge) anti-fracking campaigning in other areas of the world, then they encourage the outcomes that they desire and discourage the other outcomes. It seems quite probable that Russia can send funds through private citizens so that Greenpeace never knows it is Russian money. Greenpeace claims that fracking will never make a big difference in European oil consumption, but that is debatable.
The Case for Impeaching Barack nObama
It’s the Last Straw: nObama Opens Border to Tens of Thousand Illegal Immigrant Children and Teenagers from Central America...The time to begin impeachment proceedings against Barack nObama is right now. nObama’s disrespect for the Constitution has been clear since he took office in 2008. But now nObama has truly crossed the line by engaging in child abuse. nObama refuses to enforce U.S. immigration laws legitimately on the books in his mad determination to create an immigration crisis by flooding the United States with illegal immigrant children and teenagers who are crossing our border with Mexico without their parents.
No combat pay for US advisors in Iraq
Special Forces troops heading to Iraq to advise the Iraqi security forces will not receive combat pay but will have immunity from local law, Pentagon officials said Friday... “This is not a combat mission, they are not being sent to participate in combat,” said Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary, of the 300 Special Forces troops ordered to Iraq by President nObama on Thursday. Consequently, the troops would not be eligible for “imminent danger pay” of $7.50 daily up to $225 per month for service members in areas where they could be at grave risk, Kirby said. Kirby said danger pay ended for U.S. troops with the withdrawal of forces at the end of 2011, and Iraq currently was no longer considered a combat zone in terms of pay and benefits for U.S. troops. What exactly will these guys being doing? It seems like they are simply a photo op that has the opportunity to become a disaster.
“The Smartest Woman in the World” Flunks Foreign Policy Exam
In her new book, dHillarious Clinton reveals that she prodded President nObama to “lift or ease” (what’s left of the so-called) Cuba embargo... “The embargo is Castro’s best friend,” Clinton explained to a delighted audience at the anti-embargo Council on Foreign Relations last week while promoting her book Hard Choices. But doesn’t the “Smartest Woman in the World” and former U.S. Secretary of State know that what’s left of the sanctions against Castro’s Stalinist regime are codified into law and can only be lifted by Congress, obviously after a vote? In fact, this codification took place with passage of the Helms-Burton act in 1996, when she was first lady (co-president.) The current U.S. president, having already delighted Castro by loopholing the Cuba sanctions almost to death, can’t go much further. Has Ms. Clinton forgotten? Or is this constitutional “expert” advocating (even more) U.S. government by executive fiat?
What the Redskins Controversy Is Really About
Let’s be real. The rancorous debate over the Redskins name has nothing to do with assuaging the hurt feelings of nObama’s “sizeable group of people.”...It is about the expansion of government control. Progressives like dinky Harry Reid don’t truly care about Native American sensibilities any more than they care about health care for the uninsured. Both issues – all issues for progressives – are about acquiring and expanding power. The Daily Caller, for example, listed twelve trademarks that the United States Patent and Trademark Office apparently finds less worthy of addressing than “Redskins.” Those trademarks include, among others, such brands as Uppity Negro, Dago Swag, Kraut Krap, and Figgas Over Niggas. The hypocrisy is blatant and almost hilarious. But the Washington Redskins make a more useful and visible political target. If President nObama and his cohorts are eagerly searching to punish organizations with offensive names, perhaps they could turn their selective attention to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Pro-Amnesty Elites Treat People as ‘Commodities’
Perhaps no issue better illustrates the current divide between everyday citizens and our political and business elites than the issue of immigration...The latter group draws the financial gains from a generous labor supply without considering the perspective of those on the other side of the ledger: the working people who have to worry about being laid off and replaced with lower-wage workers, about the strain placed on their local hospitals and neighborhood resources, or about cartel violence spilling across the border into their own communities.
Don’t Blame Bush for Al Qaeda in Iraq, Blame nObama
But the theory that turned Al Qaeda into a regional monster didn’t come from Dick Cheney. It came from nObama’s Presidential Study Directive 11 which helped pave the way for the Arab Spring...The definitive speech that opened the gates of hell wasn’t Bush’s speech on Iraq, but nObama’s Cairo speech. ISIS picked up its weapons and manpower as a consequence of the conflicts in Libya and Syria. nObama chose to fight on the side of Al Qaeda in Libya. That led to the murder of four Americans in Benghazi after Islamic militias took over major cities. nObama chose to facilitate the smuggling of weapons to Islamic militias by Qatar and other Gulf states. The White House endorsed the weapons smuggling, but then claimed to be surprised that the weapons were going to “more antidemocratic, more hard-line, closer to an extreme version of Islam” fighters. The White House didn’t shut down the smuggling operation. Instead a senior official claimed not to be able to control the Qataris; not to mention the Saudis, Kuwaitis and the rest of the state-sponsored terrorism gang.
Saddam’s WMDs: The Left’s Iraq Lies Exposed
The latest revelations on the details of Saddam’s weapons stockpile, now potentially in the hands of Sunni radicals, affirm the Bush administration’s characterization of Iraq as a territory situated in a hotbed of radicalism...flooded with a bevy of highly dangerous weapons and overseen by a criminal rogue regime. In 2010, documents procured by Wikileaks revealed more information on the WMD threat posed by Iraq that was known to the government. The self-described whistleblowers, who could hardly be called pro-war, released 392,000 military reports from Iraq that revealed several instances of American encounters with potential WMDs or their manufacture. And now ISIS, disowned by al Qaeda for being even more ruthless than it is, controls a chemical facility containing contents declared “destroyed” because they couldn’t be recovered safely, along with bunkers containing contents “yet to be confirmed.” And an administration with an unparalleled facility for lying assures us everything will be fine because the chemical weapons have no useful military value and can’t be moved safely.  As with the rest of the Left’s handling of Iraq, this is an analysis that no one should have faith in.
Green Energy at VA Killed Vets
Daniel Greenfield
Three years before Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki would be forced out of his job because of the veterans who had died under him, he visited the Massachusetts National Cemetery. He wasn't there to see the men and women who had died because of him.
While vets were dying, nObama and Shinseki had turned their attention to something truly important; seeing to it that all the cemeteries where they were being buried had wind or solar power.

The Massachusetts National Cemetery was getting a wind turbine so that the dead veterans would have all the sustainable energy they needed.

A VA press release about the cemetery turbine boasted that "under the leadership of Secretary Eric K. Shinseki... VA is transitioning into a 21st century organization that better serves America’s Veterans."

Shinseki arrived in person at the dedication ceremony to flip the switch on the cemetery wind turbine.

“Nationally, VA continues to expand its investment in renewable sources of energy to promote our Nation’s energy independence, save taxpayer dollars, and improve care for our Veterans and their families,” he said.

The cemetery turbine had cost $533,000. Veterans were dying to save the VA a few hundred dollars. Shinseki had made his order of priorities clear. Green energy boondoggles came first. Improving veteran care came last.

Acting Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Steve Muro told the crowd, "With one of VA’s first wind turbine projects, the Massachusetts National Cemetery is leading the way in the use of renewable energy while providing the burial benefits that New England Veterans and their families have earned."

Muro had made the entire macabre spectacle worthy of a Joseph Heller novel. nObama's people had not only killed veterans, they had killed satire.

When the VA wasn't installing a wind turbine at a cemetery, it was installing solar panels at cemeteries to better serve the dead veterans that it was killing.

The Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery’s solar panels cost $787,308. According to the press release, the solar panels in the cemetery would "reduce greenhouse gas emissions".

$742,034 worth of solar panels was put in at the Calverton National Cemetery. The San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery got an $800,000 solar panel setup. The Riverside National Cemetery got a $1.3 million solar system.

“We are investing in clean energy and renewable energy projects at our national cemeteries to reduce our environmental footprint,” Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki declared. ”The transition toward these renewable energy sources helps VA continue to be a leading example of going green in the federal government.”

Vets might be dying at VA facilities, but they would have solar panels and wind turbines over their graves so that Shineski could provide nObama with a leading example of “greenness”.

The cemeteries may have been where the VA's scandal of shorting care for vets ended, under the shade of solar panels and wind turbines, but it was not where it began.

The VA scandal began at the Phoenix VA Health Care System where administrators earned promotions and bonuses by shunting patients who needed treatment into fake waiting lists.

As many as 40 veterans had died while waiting for care and 1,715 veterans in the Phoenix VA Health Care System had waited more than 90 days for an appointment. A retired Navy serviceman died of bladder cancer after being put on a 7-month waiting list after blood was found in his urine. He finally received an appointment a week after his death.

But each and every year, from 2009 to 2011, the Phoenix VA Health Care System put in solar panels. The solar panels at the Carl T. Hayden VA in Phoenix cost $20 million.

That $20 million could have saved the lives of dying veterans.

In 2009, nObama had signed a Green Energy executive order. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki had announced that "in order to continue providing Veterans with the best health care and benefit services, VA must adapt to climate change."

Not only did Global Warming have nothing to do with serving veterans, but it got in the way of the VA's central mission. While Shinseki was focused on building solar panels so the sky wouldn't fall, veterans were waiting months to see a doctor.

At some South Texas facilities vets had to wait 85 days for a primary care appointment and 55 days for a mental health appointment with  "a worst-in-the-nation, 145-day average wait for new patients seeking specialist care".

One of the vets waiting for a mental health appointment, who suffered from waiting list cheating, committed suicide.

Meanwhile the South Texas Veterans Health Care System installed a 1.7 MW solar PV system.

The Amarillo VA Health Care System had the third longest wait times for mental health appointments in the country. Its Thomas E. Creek office complained of a lack of resources. Meanwhile $10 million was spent on solar panels.

Hawaii has the longest waiting list for veterans with an average of 145 days for an appointment at the Spark M. Matsunaga VA Medical Center.

Meanwhile it was spending between $1 and $2 million on a 119 KW Solar PV System.

Veterans at Kansas VAs had to wait more than 90 days. 977 never had appointments scheduled. There were 104 vets on the waiting list at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita.

But while the Dole Center may not have had time for vets, it did have time to set up solar panels.

Three mental health administrators at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida were suspended for keeping a waiting list for over 200 vets. Meanwhile the facility had blown between $5 and $10 million on a solar panel system.

The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center put 3,000 vets on a phantom waiting list to see a doctor who doesn't see patients.

Unfortunately its $20.3 million solar setup was all too real.

The average wait time for new patients at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center was about 57 days to see a primary care doctor.  But that just gave vets more time to admire its new $1.1 million solar setup.

The Bay Pines VA Health Care System didn't schedule appointments for 1,000 vets. But it did find the time and money to put in solar panels. The Cheyenne VA Medical Center, which was caught removing vets from the waiting list, had not one, but two, million dollar solar setups.

The Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center, which was one of three flagged facilities, was part of a $50 million VA solar panel contract.

Vets couldn't get appointments, but every VA facility was getting solar power, whether it needed it or not.

The Buffalo VA Medical Center in upstate New York, where winter is the best 8 months of the year, got solar. So did the VA center in the Bronx in New York City. The New York VA solar contracts were part of $7.8 million in solar contracts awarded to one company.

Meanwhile in Southeast Texas, the former associate chief of staff at the VA said that a cost-cutting policy had been implemented under which colonoscopies would only be approved if the patient tested positive in three successive screenings for bloody stools.

“By the time that you do the colonoscopies on these patients, you went from a stage 1 to a stage 4, which is basically inoperable,” Dr. Richard Krugman said. "That was done because of dollars and cents. For the VA, they have to be bleeding out of their rectum before they would authorize a colonoscopy."

Everyone has their priorities. Benghazi and the VA scandal happened because the men who died were a low priority compared to solar panels and buying bad art for embassies. The State Department spent millions on art for embassies and mansion renovations, but begrudged the security that would have saved four American lives. Fortunes were spent on solar panels and wind turbines for VA facilities, but veterans died of cancer to save money on a colonoscopy.

The corrupt obsession with Green Energy doesn't just waste money, it costs lives. The fanaticism of the Global Warmists in the White House led them to disregard the lives of vets because they thought that saving the world with solar panels and wind turbines was more important.

The VA's Green Management Program Office claimed that it would "keep our promises to Veterans through sustainability." Instead it focused on "Environmental Justice" and "Green Purchasing" at the expense of veterans. Solar panels went up and veterans went down.

While they were putting in wind and solar at VA facilities and cemeteries, they forgot about the veterans who had served their country and deserved better than to be sacrificed for a solar panel.
