Mass Murder - Lessons to be Learned

The surest way to make the remedy for a problem cost more than it should and produce an ineffective result is to pioneer the wrong thing. The surest way to make a remedy fail is to let a politician design it. Removing or abating symptoms only alleviates (at best case) the symptoms, not the problem. Having said that, let us look at the real underlying cause of the problem. Psychopaths and sociopaths are the most common mental disorders. The antisocial conduct disorder (a treatable psychosis) is a common side effect of drug abuse. The antisocial personality disorder (a neurosis) is not treatable by known means.

Violent criminals have no respect for law and order. Most of them also have mental disorders. They will get what they want in ways that avoid law enforcement.

People with mental disorders that make them violent against others are (if discovered and diagnosed) given meds and released. There is no assurance that they take these meds to abate their violent symptomatic behavior. We must not give these people access to weapons, or tools that can be used as weapons. We also must verify that they are taking their meds properly, even if this means confinement.

A significant portion of our nation has turned away from God and substituted a godless mindset in God’s place. This mindset goes by the brand names "atheism" and "secular humanism." About 21 percent of the US voter population does not believe in a personal God. Most of them do not believe in the existence of any God at all. This mindset makes them feel unaccountable to an all-knowing God for their misdeeds. Their philosophy of life is to live life to the fullest (epicureans). The more pragmatic people in the bunch believe that the best way to do this is through collaboration with like-minded groups (secular humanism).

The alleged largest "religion" in the world is the Muslim religion. Although Muslims (of all five major sects) claim to worship the "God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob", they also claim that the Jews and Christians (who worship the real God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) are infidels. Infidels are unworthy of continued mortal existence unless they pay financial tribute to the Muslim orthodoxy for the privilege of staying alive. The Muslim "religion" is really a political movement based upon Shariah Law. Their primary allegiance is to their religious community, not the government. To them, government is a means to an end and subordinate to their clerical theocracy.

Christianity also has become corrupted by "redefinition of sin." Examples are abortion, sanctity of marriage, divorce, pre-marital sex, and homosexuality in all of its forms. Church rituals appear to be as much as 95 percent entertainment and 5 percent instruction/worship. Designer religions overlook and ignore sinful behaviors that are common vices within their congregation. Unfortunately, they will eventually learn up close and personal that God does not negotiate and never compromises.

So what is the profile of classic suicidal mass murderers? They do not believe in life after death. To them, suicide is a final escape from their present situation, not eternal damnation. They may be on a crusade, consider their life hopeless, seek revenge, want to be remembered as a part of recorded history, or a combination of all these and other motives. They fear no accountability for their actions. Violence and threats of violence are their preferred way to resolve a conflict or cope with an unpleasant situation. They do not value the life, liberty or pursuit of happiness for anyone else unless it benefits them personally.

Given the above diagnosis, what is the remedy?

Organized religion needs to clean up their act and follow God's directive. They should not preach some feel-good politically correct compromise that soothes the conscience of their congregation while it makes them spiritually sick.
Parents need to teach faith and morality to their children by word and example. Above all else, they must not abdicate their value system to the care of a corrupt and amoral public school system.
Parents also need to take back control over their school boards and city councils. Local government must return to a common-sense trajectory that aligns with both morality and our US Constitution.
We all need to repent of our sinful behavior and become a positive role model for those who know us, especially our families. We need to vet our political candidates before voting for them.
We need to clean up voting fraud and identity theft.
We need to stop supporting media that promote sin as a normal way of life.
We need to stop poisoning our ability to think and reason with recreational drug abuse.
We need to deny violent criminals and people with severe mental disorders access to deadly weapons and tools they could use to make deadly weapons.
We need to reform our mental health system to make sure that people with violent mental disorders cannot harm innocent people.

Once our youth realize and believe that they are accountable to an all-knowing higher power than government, they will have a deterrent against violence. This is not a complete to-do list, but it is a start.

Churches and nothing but collections of sinful believers and to blame them for not being something different is wrong. Each of us needs to look to ourselves, repent and take personal responsibility for the conduct of our gathering of believers.

Comment by Wayne Carr on December 19, 2012 at 12:20pm: The Main Stream Religious organisations have fallen down on the job of teaching that God & Jesus love all of us. The statement "Fear of God" has a very bad affect on people. We are excused of our sins by the intervention of Jesus if we only accept Him as the Savior and Son of God. The Church leaders have added so-called Sins to a list. The greatest Sin is the denial of God not all the minor bad things that people do.

Islam is not a religion but a culture that wan ts to rule the world.

Comment by Jack Weimar Penland on December 19, 2012 at 10:49am: I find some of these suggestions about confining the violently mentally ill troubling for the following reasons: Given the certainty that there will be, sooner or later, governmental abuse of this confinement, (as was commonplace in the old USSR to get rid of political enemies), I worry that so many people who bristle at the same level of governmental control of firearms would at least show lukiwarm support for this travesty. There is a very good reason why it is so difficult to have people committed involuntarily in this country, because true Constitutionalists saw the open door for the abuse by the toads in Washington. Make no mistake, this is just as dangerous to our liberty as the gun control everyone is focused on, perhaps more so because it is so insidious and under the radar, so to speak. Who was it who said "Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom"? I will close with one of my favorite quotes, this one attributed to Benjamin Franklin; who said " Those who would trade essential liberty for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Comment by Rich Knoch on December 19, 2012 at 9:57am: Wackoid Shooters almost always (95+% of the time) look for 'Soft Targets' so they don't have to worry about return fire . . . . they learn this from the Violent Video Games which occupy their minds and their time.

The solution

(1) no Soft Targets . . . unless the property owner wants everyone to become a possible target for wackoids

(2) CCW and education for those qualified folks who choose to carry defensive weapons

(3) Wackoids avoid Hardened Targets . . . in a few years, a few more atrocities and a few Billion Dollars flushed, even our government will finally figure it out!

Comment by Robert Schumacker on December 19, 2012 at 8:15am: Yes, I totally agree with all of the points stated in the proposed remedy! I would like to add two additional items to the remedy however:

8. Confine all mentally ill people who are a danger to themselves and/or others in a mental health treatment facility until such time that they are no longer a danger.

9. Provide adequate security at all schools by using armed guards.

They want the people to worship the State as they do in North Korea. This fact should tell everyone all they need to know about the direction our Country is taking!

What has happened to that concept, have we all gone MAD. God has given us these right and they shall not be enfringed on. What must we do the insure we don't loose these rights, we must fight for what we beleave in, and that in our Country. Thank you

Comment by Karen on December 19, 2012 at 12:42am: I heard several preachers "dance" around the question "if" there is a God...why does He allow this?" Not one mentioned that ALL good and PERFECT things come from GOD however; satan comes to ROB, KILL and DESTROY. God does NOT have authority over satan; once Eve ate of the tree of knowledge (aka DEED to earth) the "deed" was handed over to satan. That's WHY there is evil in this world however; the devil roams to and froe seeking whom he can devour. Jesus came to save His followers from the snares of the devil and to give us eternal life. As long as there is a satan in this world there WILL be evil. God in His infinite wisdom gave us His word...its sharper than a two edge sword. We come against the evil one with the word of God and cover our loved ones DAILY with the blood of Jesus. God said "My people perish for lack of knowledge." People are running out buying guns when they should be buying BIBLES! I have more faith in GOD protecting my family against any gov't militia than I do a gun! Faith and speaking forth Gods word will hold an army at bay. If God can part a sea, slay a giant with a rock, save Jonah from a whale and deliver His ppl from a fiery furnace; He can deliver us from ALL evil that we may soon face.

Comment by di - OR on December 18, 2012 at 11:12pm: Taking God out of our schools has caused a dramatic down turn in the morality of our culture. When I was a kids, it was honor God and country. We were taught patriotism, said the pledge of allegiance, we taught patriotic songs and taught right from wrong.
