Standing against big government and for the people!
Second Amendment: A House resolution, as futile as it may be, represents growing opposition to another administration bow to the U.N. encroachment on U.S. sovereignty at the expense of its laws and even our Constitution.
Treaties are ratified by a two-thirds majority of the Senate, and the final version of the U.N.'s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) may likely be signed by this president and ratified by this Senate, especially if presented as a "sensible restriction" on international arms trafficking with no impact on our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
But some House members are not going to let it happen without a justified protest.
Before the House left for the Thanksgiving break, Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa., unveiled a resolution to make the treaty not binding and let no federal funds implement it unless the Senate consents and Congress passes implementing legislation.
The resolution is co-sponsored by 76 other House members, including some Democrats.
"There is considerable cause for alarm regarding the U.N.'s renewed efforts to forge an Arms Trade Treaty that could trample the constitutional rights of Americans and seriously compromise our national security and the security of our allies, whom we will be less able to arm and less quick to defend due to the restrictions placed on us by the ATT," Kelly said.
One of their key objections is with the requirement in the July draft of the treaty — which will be the starting point for final negotiations — for each member state to keep records on "end users," or gun purchasers, for a minimum of 10 years.
Hence, Americans who purchase an imported firearm may have to be registered in the country of origin. Ammunition could also be tracked and logged the same way.
We have argued, as do Kelly and his colleagues, that even if it applied only to transfers of small arms between nations, would that mean restrictions on our ability to aid allies such as Israel and Taiwan?
Would we be forbidden from aiding resistance movements around the world rising up against the very dictators who support this treaty?

Comment by June Gagnon on December 1, 2012 at 12:12am Just a PS-Those fax/petitions at "petition2congress" are "free" to send; you can alter, edit, delete, insert your own ideas and comments. Dozens of petitions there, addressing most all of our grievances; you can send as many, or as few as you like!
Comment by June Gagnon on December 1, 2012 at 12:10am At "petition2congress" on page #2, half way down the page, you will find a fax/petition "Keep Obama From Giving UN Authority Over Arms"- -only 1400+ petitions have been sent. If you "seriously" want to defend your 2nd Amendment Rights, go there now and fill out the petition! We need hundreds of thousands of them to make an "impression". Meanwhile, should the un, or anyone else attempt to confiscate mine, I will recite, for the "The Dick Act of 1902", otherwise known as "The Efficiency of Militia Bill". If they still "persist", they will have to "accept" the lead, first! I'm too old to run, but I can still hit what I aim at.
Comment by Bill G on November 27, 2012 at 10:35pm The real question is what will YOU do? More than what you, or I, type on the keyboard for Internet blogs, or even boast of our bravado with friends; it is how will you respond should the government knock on your door and demand you turn over your guns? Will you be like Charlton Heston and declare, “from my cold dead hands” or will you relinquish a God given right (as did the citizens of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina), protected under the very Constitution that these politicians undermined for their own gain? If history bears true, and you stick by your guns, it may very well be from your cold, dead hands they remove your guns from.
Comment by Edward Ducy on November 26, 2012 at 9:58pm The Govt. doesn't respect us - we don't respect them! They don't respect our Constitution - we don't respect their laws! Time to have WE THE PEOPLE - do our own thing!! Do not EVER do what they want us to do! NEVER, NEVER surrender your weapons! Time for talking has stopped, time to "Lock & Load"! Time for a Call to Arms! Time to become a "Sovereign Citizen"! Time take back our Republic with force & violence if necesary! Form or join a Militia!!!
Comment by Mark Lickers on November 26, 2012 at 9:15pm I'm an Oath Keeper! I know where I'll stand.
Comment by Michael Ball on November 26, 2012 at 8:30pm If they don't uphold the Constitution then are we to respect their new UN laws. The laws of America means something to me but not Obama or the new world order. We will have to decide to either defend our Constitution or bend over for the UN dictators.I know what I will do .The question is how many will stand with me to stop this takeover of America. That is really what its coming to.Be ready stand strong their are millions of us we just need to stand together. The oath keepers of this country also know what the oath they took demands of them,be ready and willing.

Comment by Steven Newman on November 25, 2012 at 9:55pm My reading of the Founding Fathers take on the rights and liberties guaranteed us citizens is the right way NO MATTER WHAT the idiots in Washington say!
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -- Thomas Jefferson
"The beauty of the 2nd Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it"--Thomas Jefferson
ONLY a government that is AFRAID of its citizens tries to control them. -- Thomas Jefferson
"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty." --Thomas Jefferson
"Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty teeth." -- George Washington
"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good." -- George Washington
"Be not intimidated...nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice." -- John Adams (1735-1826) Founding Father, 2nd US President, A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law, 1765
Comment by Lawrence Bates on November 25, 2012 at 9:36pm I believe that it's very likely that before the next presidential election, we will be seeing firsthand why the founders thought that the second ammendment was so important, preserving private ownership of firearms as a last ditch defense of that same Constitution. President Obuslim and the rest of the one world government cabal are now just simply ignoring this Constitution which was set up by the founders as the final arbiter of whether any particular law could be put into force. Laws (or Executive Orders) must, first and formost, conform to the mandates of the Constitution or they are NOT laws - period!
We can see how the only path forward for those wishing to wreak havoc to the nation, either using new laws they themselves put in place or interpreting existing laws in unconstitutional ways, is to convince the American citizenry that the Constitution is irrelevent or meaningless, when, in fact, it is neither. Rather, it is the baserock foundation upon which our Constitutional Republic is founded. Do enough Americans either understand or care about preserving our form of government? Ask me in four years.
