I remember the spin on 'No Child Left Behind'....and how THAT was to make our children EQUAL. The problem is, when you have many who could care less about learning, you hold back those that truly do.
This may seem cold, but the hand of government should have NO ROLL in education our children.
Quite honestly, there was a time you had to have the drive to want to learn, have the grades to stay in school and parents, as well as teachers, on the same page to keep their child in school...or, by lack of parents involved and students caring, cut off and out of being a distraction to those that do want to learn.
My mom was a teacher, and she told me there was a time, in her growing up, that school was only mandatory till the eight grade. If you, the student, decided you didn't want to be in school, your parents didn't want you to be in school or you didn't have the grades and drive to be in school, you got a job, worked on your families farm, etc.
I believe we are getting to that point in a 'commonsense' that many don't want to be in school...so, take, by their actions, them out of being in school...but I've gotten off track.
What has replaced, 'No Child Left Behind' and quickly growing in classrooms, is 'Common Core', which is pure evil, in my opinion.
But, from what I know about it, is just the basics. What about those that have really looked into 'Common Core'? What do they have to say? Well, Glenn Beck had a group that discussed just that...
