Ryan, you are right. The reforms (laws) had to be passed to make us eligible for RTTP money. We did not get the money, but now we have more laws

I would contend that justifying the HC Bill on the ground of the US Constitution's Commerce Clause is grouse misinterpretation of the Clause, and to that end, the Necessary and Proper Clause, by which most progressive see as the means to an end.

Steve, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I will email you as soon as I get the chance. From what I understand from the Granholm Admin. and top state education officials is that Michigan did not win Race to the Top money. But the education reform laws passed by both houses of the state legislature are still in place.

Ryan, sorry I don't always get every post and I just saw yours. Email me at: steven@stevenLmobley.com so that we can make contact. I have not looked at all of the reforms passed in detail, however; I do believe that some of it gave more control to state and / or federal governments and I am totally against that. They cant' manage what they have right now.

Steve,

Does your platform embrace the educational reforms made in pursuit of the Race to the Top grant? I would like to "pick you brain" about this non-traditional educational system that you visited.

Education is part of my platform. I am running for the 62nd state house seat which covers Calhoun County (Battle Creek, Albion, and surronding townships). I believe that we need to look way outside the box and make our education system fit the needs of the students instead of forcing the students to fit the educational syatem. I visited a non traditional system yesterday that just started up. Most of the kids are drop outs that really want to graduate, but don't fit the traditional system (one is even 21 yrs. old).
