Campaign for Liberty

Dear Patriot,

The Senate will hold a critical cloture vote on renewing the Patriot Act at 5 pm eastern today, and only the immediate action of C4L members and other true patriots nationwide will put a halt to the ever-expanding surveillance state and save the Fourth Amendment from being pushed further into the shredder.

Contact Sen. Mark Kirk by phone at (202) 224-2854 and Sen. Richard Durbin by phone at (202) 224-2152 to demand they vote against renewing the “Patriot” Act on every vote – including each cloture vote.

On Friday, May 27, three provisions of the misnamed “Patriot” Act are set to expire

In clear violation of their oaths to uphold the Constitution, the statists in Washington, D.C. are determined not to let that happen.

You see, last week, the House GOP, under the leadership of John Boehner and Eric Cantor (who are turning their backs on the limited government mandate they claimed to support in November 2010), cut yet another deal with Harry Reid – this time to extend the “Patriot” Act for four more years with as little debate as possible!

A four-year extension “conveniently” puts the next renewal vote in 2015 – a non-election year when our brave politicians won’t have to answer for their actions at the polls.

Empowered by the Republicans’ collapse on civil liberties, Harry Reid filed cloture last Thursday.

Don’t accept the statists’ pathetic excuses for one minute – a vote for “cloture” today is a vote FOR the Fourth Amendment-shredding “Patriot” Act.

Please don’t miss this point – if cloture (allowing for the bill to be debated and voted on) fails each and every time he tries it, Harry Reid CANNOT extend the “Patriot” Act.

But your senators are used to skating through on cloture votes and claiming that they are just harmless “procedure.”

Fellow Patriot, if you don’t turn up the heat on them today, they’ll say they didn’t hear from their constituents about a “procedural” vote – even one that enabled Reid to get everything he wanted with a simple majority vote on final passage.

Your phone calls today will keep that story from being true.  You’ll be able to hold them accountable because you told them before the vote EXACTLY what they were going to do to the Constitution.

They need to know – TODAY – that the freedom movement is alive, well, and finished with watching them destroy our liberties.

That’s why your immediate action is needed!

Contact Sen. Mark Kirk by phone at (202) 224-2854 and Sen. Richard Durbin by phone at (202) 224-2152 to demand they vote against renewing the “Patriot” Act on every vote – including each cloture vote.

Reid’s bill is essentially the same bill the Senate and President were trying to rush through Congress without any debate in February - before Rand Paul and C4L members forced them to agree to a 90-day extension.

For ten long years, Americans have been given a false choice by their representatives and senators between trading some of their liberties for so-called “security” and experiencing a new 9/11- style terrorist attack.

This viewpoint was as apparent as ever during the House Judiciary Committee’s final “Patriot” Act hearing, where your pressure ensured C4L was heard in front of Congress.
The problem for our politicians, and in fact for all Americans who feel “safer” after trading some of their liberties, is that 9/11 didn’t occur because of a failure to gather useable intelligence.  Rather, it occurred because of the bureaucrats’ failure to use the intelligence that had been gathered.

This is typical of the federal government.  Whenever it fails to do its jobs properly, its solution is to throw more money at the problem and grab more power.

The abominable acts that occurred on 9/11 were unjustifiable, but we cannot allow the White House and Congress to destroy the rights and liberties that made this nation great

Contact Sen. Mark Kirk by phone at (202) 224-2854 and Sen. Richard Durbin by phone at (202) 224-2152 to demand they vote against renewing the “Patriot” Act on every vote – including each cloture vote.
Campaign for Liberty has done everything we can to make our position clear to the politicians on Capitol Hill.  Now it’s up to grassroots activists like you to make your voices heard and turn up the heat.

Politics really is just a game of numbers.  Will your call be the one that changes your senators’ vote from “YEA” to “NAY”?

Please, help C4L restore our civil liberties and roll back the surveillance state by taking just a few minutes out of your day to call your senators.

Remember Benjamin Franklin’s wise words, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

The choice whether or not to continue giving up essential Liberty is ours to make today.

In Liberty,

John Tate

P.S.  My staff and I have spent countless hours doing what we can to fight the so-called “Patriot” Act over the last three months.  If you are able, please consider chipping in $10 to help C4L continue fighting for the restoration of our liberties.

Simple Grassroots Actions That Can Make a Difference

We'll be supplying lots of Simple Grassroots Actions in the upcoming months, beginning with our meeting topic for this month: Voter Awareness:  What to Look For.

Voting integrity will be a big issue between now and the 2012 election.  Therefore, we are excited about this month's meeting.  Robert Saar, the Executive Director of the DuPage Board of Elections, will speak to us about voting.  He has a short presentation that will be followed by questions and answers.  We hope you'll come with lots of questions.  We'll also provide a list to get you going.

We will also provide some information regarding the organization True the Vote.  This group has learned a lot about the issues that make fair elections, and they have a plan for evaluating election procedures.

We will also inform and update you about several items, including:

  •  A plan Governor Quinn has to force cities to do the budget cutting rather than the state,
  • A new project that is available for use in public school to teach students about the Constitution,
  • Updates on local board meetings, and
  • Our upcoming June meeting topic

A great way to arm yourself with questions for our meeting on Wednesday...

RE: $1.5 million for building new office; $5K for PR firm

This MONDAY: May 23

7 pm

31 W. 236 91st Street (Wheatland Industrial Park/Naperville)

We received this information from a fellow patriot re: the expenditure of over $1.5 million for building a new township office.  The Plainfield has uncovered curious connections between township officials and donations to their campaigns from individuals and companies who will gain from this building.  The following is a summary of the sequence of events leading up to Monday night's upcoming meeting.

If you have never attended a township meeting, you should come to this one and experience it.  It truly is our republic in action with a true "of the people, by the people and for the people." We elect a people's moderator and everyone speaks their mind with no time limits. However, only registered voters in Wheatland Township can VOTE or speak.  Come experience true township government and support your fellow TEA patriots!

click here to jump to ad information (referred to as attachment in this correspondence) placed in Naperville SUN (BTW .. part of a $5,000 expenditure the township is spending on a PR firm to convince the public why this is a good use of taxpayers dollars).
Please see the attachment below to view how your tax dollars are being spent AGAINST you!!!  The following chronicles a fraction of the subterfuge, misinformation and overall poor leadership exhibited by Supervisor Morse and Trustees Haddad and King, as well as the disgraceful counsel of Keri-Lyn Krafthefer.  Also complicit in these deceitful machinations are Carolyn Rominger and Jay Madalon, town employees.

April 12 - At the 2011 Annual Wheatland Township Meeting, a record breaking crowd of 135 residents, 122 of them eligible voters, in a 62-24 vote, demanded that ALL expenditures/activities relative to the new township building be halted until the requisite due diligence was completed and the findings be brought back to the folks for approval.

April 13 - Subsequently, at a special board meeting, the board voted to honor the demands of the people to stop expenditures/activities relative to the new building with the exception of a $5000 provision that was unanimously approved by board members to "educate the public".

May 12th - at a special board meeting on at 7:05 p.m. the board approved The People's Agenda as crafted by representatives, Mike Crockett and Deb Holscher, and The People's Counsel, Doug Ibendahl.  During the regular monthly board meeting that convened at 7:40 p.m. on the very same evening, Trustee Haddah let it be known that he had created ads to run in the papers vs the newsletter as discussed previously by board members.  Supervisor Morse indicated that Trustee Haddah deviated from the original plan and tabled the discussion.  Audience members were left with the impression that the ad campaign would not move forward in lieu of the board's vote to approve The People's Agenda and fact that Trustee Haddah had no authorization to place ads.

May 13 - I received a press release submitted by Gary Karafiat, a public relations specialist, who quotes Supervisor Morse, "The years of due diligence, needs assessments and hard work have really paid off."  Paid off for whom?  Multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests have yet to yield any evidence of due diligence, needs assessments or any accountability beyond personal wish lists...EVER.

May 15th - Attached ad appears in Naperville Sun.

May 18th - Two ads of similar ilk appear in Naperville Sun.

May 19th - Town employee, Carolyn Rominger denies in an email that the township has hired a public relations firm.  Confirms that "someone has been hired to help with our educational outreach program".

May 20th - Gary Karafiat, self described "independent contractor" and owner of GK Communications, states, "I have been hired by the supervisor of Wheatland Township as an independent contractor to assist with the process".   Supervisor Morse credits township clerk with shredding documents that would prove his assertions of due diligence.

Yessiree!!!  YOUR tax dollars at work!!!  Come out on May 23rd and start the process of cleaning up after these so-called public servants and the mess they've made, and continue to make, with YOUR money!!!

What's Wrong with This Ad?

(as seen in the Naperville Sun)

BTW ... I just got my assessment .. and ALL the taxes (percentages) went UP as my home value continues to fall!! So .. I don't understand this "no tax increase!!"

central to our future  In 2004, 20 residents gathered and approved, in an 18-2 vote, to purchase property to eventually build a new townhall.  Sixteen of the eighteen who approved the purchase, were current and/or former elected or appointed township officials and/or their family members.  This was, and still is, about a special interest group.  This had/has NOTHING to do with OUR future!

no tax increase  Secondary to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, township officials have NEVER  implemented or presented a Needs Assessment and subsequent Cost Analysis or Sustainability Report on the costs of this new building.  It is impossible to make this statement in today's economic climate.

New Wheatland Township Building & Community Cente This building and community center has NEVER been approved by Wheatland Township residents.

ALL ARE INVITED: SPECIAL MEETING, Monday, May 23, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.  On May 12th, the township board approved The People's Agenda for the May 23rd special meeting.  The agenda does not include a vote on the new building.  The People's Agenda serves to start the process of due diligence, or homework, that the current and previous township officials do/did not think warranted or necessary.

1.   In 2008, Wheatland Township purchased land at Route 59 and 103rd Street - This purchase was in accordance with the aforementioned vote in 2004. The economy is vastly different now and The People's Agenda specifically addresses the need to explore viable and available space options of the many existing fire sale and/or foreclosed properties in our township.  The potential cost savings of these alternative space options should be presented to the public.

2.  Today, the Township has more than $1.5 million available to use toward this 7,000 to 8,000 square foot building. - For years, township officials have set the tax levy rate at maximum in order to squirrel away this money!  In other words, they purposely RAISED YOUR TAXES, beyond what they needed to operate the town, in order to PAY FOR THEIR building.  Currently, the administrative functions of the Township operate in ~1200 square feet.  The board approved 3400 square feet Summer 2010, the supervisor unilaterally raised it to 6000 in Fall 2010 and now, the last two drawings have been 7500 and 7300 square feet.  To date, there is no explanation for this massive expansion, other than "we need it for the future".

YOUR TAX DOLLARS PAID FOR THIS PROPAGANDA!!!  On April 12th a record breaking crowd (135 residents, 122 eligible voters) demanded that Wheatland Township officials stop ALL expenditures/activities relative to the proposed ill-begotten monstrosity on prime real estate @ 103rd and 59.  Furthermore, the residents voted for a comprehensive due diligence study to be completed and have the findings of that study brought back to them for approval.

Join us this Monday and fight for your rights and money!
